A North East firm responsible for creating some of the world’s most luxurious swimming pools has been appointed to design its 500th project.

Devin Consulting has helped create hundreds of pools across the world in places such as Kazakhstan and Qatar, as well as local projects. Around 65m bathers are estimated to use its pools each year.

Among the pools that Devin Consultancy has put its name to are the Qatar Foundation Aquatic Centre, the Bath Spa’s rooftop pool and a glass bottom pool built on London’s Sidworth Street.

But the firm is probably best known for helping to design the world renowned London Aquatic Centre, which was designed for the 2012 Olympic games.

Devin Consulting has now hit a major milestone after taking on its 500th project, the development of a new pool at Eton College.

Commenting on reaching the important milestone, founder and managing director Tom Devin said: “When I started off the business if someone said we would do 500 pools, I would have really asked if that was possible. But it’s an appreciation of what we can bring to a project.

“It is an achievement and now we are looking towards the next 500.”

Devin Consulting works with architects to provide specialist design and engineering advice to major swimming pool projects. The company works with major aquatic centres, spas and hotels to develop the custom designed pools.

It is currently working a world first project that will see a sky pool connect two buildings at London’s Embassy Gardens.

Swimmers using the pool will be suspended nine stories above the ground, while watching local residents pass underneath through the pool’s see through bottom.

“The pool will be a world first,” said Mr Devin. “We don’t believe there is a pool that is wholly transparent and spans two buildings anywhere else.”

The Embassy Gardens pool will be made out of a special acrylic material, a strong plastic which can be joined together using invisible joints and seals.

Since Devin Consulting was founded in 2000 it has grown its numbers to a 16-strong team, made up of engineers, management and administration staff.

Over the last six years the firm has doubled in size, and has no intention of slowing down.

“We are looking to grow by another 50% in the next four years,” said Mr Devin. “That’s turnover and headcount.”
