A pink pampering palace has popped up with one sole aim: to make young girls feel like princesses.

Kandy Girl has opened for business in Kingstanding and, according to owner Rachel Powell, it’s the first KIDS-ONLY spa in the UK.

“The whole idea came from my daughter, Kimora, who is eight now,” said Rachel, from Perry Barr.

“I’m a qualified beautician and she likes to see me doing it all. She came to me about the idea and asked if she could have her party at one these salons.

“Then she said: ‘Mum, why don’t you just do your own? That way my friends can come’.

“It’s been in the United States for about two years now so it’s new over there. It’s big in Dubai as well but there’s nothing like it over here.

“I searched and searched but couldn’t find anywhere in the UK so Kimora asked me to take her to the USA so I promised her I would.

“I said okay but I didn’t do it. Then she reminded me one year later. She said: ‘Mum, you said you were going to do this salon’.

“I thought I’ve only got one daughter, let me do something for her.”

Kandy Girl is situated in Kingstanding Road, just over from Hawthorn Road, and features everything from manicures to pedicures. There’s even chocolate and strawberry facial scrubs.

As you walk in bubble gum-pink massage chairs are to your left while huge pink and gold leather thrones are to your right. There’s even a hot tub in the corner for girls aged 10 and over.

Business owner Rachel added: “I’ve done all my sanding, the painting myself. I’ve grafted because we didn’t have the money to start paying everyone to do it for you.

“That way I could have my furniture and everything customised. I just want it to scream princess –check out my chandelier!

“I didn’t want it to be a nail bar or anything like that, I want it to be an experience for young girls.

Beauty spas for children are big in the USA and Dubai.

“We roll out the red carpet for parties; there’s cookies and milkshake and magazines while you wait; a hot tub with little robes while next door there’s a dance room!

“We’ve even got non-alcoholic champagne as well.

“I’ve always wanted bring something new to the UK – I’ve always wanted to do that and it’s here now!”
