The owner of Valemount-based Emerald Earth Organic Spa has been named a finalist in the "best solopreneur" category of the Small Business BC awards.

The spa features a  full-service menu of customized massage, facials, foot bliss therapy and hot stone massages - all provided by owner Sherrie Houghton and using the spa's own handcrafted natural skincare products.

Houghton was named a finalist "for combining her passion for nature and well being, and her formal training into a successful spa and self-care business that has had to pivot several times along the way, but in a way that always took her to the next level," according to judge's comments.

Four other businesses were named finalists in the category, including Jak. Natural Designs out of Blue River which makes wood wares out of salvaged materials and Terrace-based Jada Creations, which makes wearable Indigenous art.

Audelicious Restaurant in Fort St. John was named a finalist in the best immigrant entrepreneur category. The menu includes steak, seafood, Filipino dishes and even a "stellar chimichanga burrito."

Finalists must now present a 10-minute pitch, followed by a question and answer session, to a judging panel virtually via Zoom. The winner in each category will be announced in early May.
