An Oconee County, South Carolina, deputy who was shot in the line of duty is now working on standing and walking independently, according to his family's latest update.Cpl. Lucas Watts was shot Nov. 16 and has graduated to living in an apartment where he started outpatient therapy in Georgia. "He goes every weekday for 3 hours each day," the post said. In a post on Caring Bridge dated May 6, the family said Lucas recently had successful Achilles surgery and has daily therapy to work on standing and walking. The Caring Bridge post said Lucas's family was able to take him outside to the garden for a picnic on Easter. "We all wish things had gone differently on November 16th," the Caring Bridge post said. "This has been one of the hardest things we've ever gone through; yet Lucas is alive and doing amazingly well. We are all stronger in ways we never could have imagined. Lucas's story is nothing short of a miracle. And we know without a doubt, God is the reason why."Prior to this move, Watts had been staying at a rehab facility in Georgia.
