Participate In Sea Turtle Conservation Program At Estrella Del Mar In Mazatlan, Mexico

Resort Guests Help Release Turtles to Sea Every Sunset from September-January

MAZATLAN, MEXICO, MEXICO, September 19, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- MAZATLAN, MEXICO – September 19, 2018 -- Estrella del Mar, a 900-acre. gated oceanfront resort community in Mazatlan, Mexico offers its resort guests an opportunity to enjoy everything from championship golf to water sports by day and then help to release turtle hatchlings to the ocean at sunset every night from September through January as part of the resort’s turtle conservation program. Guests of Estrella del Mar can enjoy a free guided tour of the resort’s Turtle Preserve including a visit to incubation facilities and the release of hatchlings.

For its effort in the conservation and protection of sea turtles for the past 20 years, the Estrella del Mar Turtle Sanctuary received the prestigious Don Manuel Orantes 2018 Award, at the 20th Annual Meeting for the Conservation of Marine Turtles in Mexico in Loreto, Baja California Sur.

During the summer months, the busy turtle breeding season begins, and the resort welcomes students, tourists and local residents who want to help and observe the process. The first turtles arrive at the beginning of the rainy season in July. Once these turtles arrive, the Estrella del Mar staff works around the clock—trying to locate the trails left in the sand; following them to the nest; and excavating, cataloging, and relocating the eggs to a secure nursery at the resort’s turtle sanctuary where they will be protected from predators and man. The eggs are placed at the exact depth that the mother laid them where they then incubate for 45 days.

After those 45 days, guests get to witness the miracle of life as these shiny, precious little creatures dig their way out of the nest, shaking off bits of sand and opening their eyes to their new world. Normally, these hatchlings would immediately return to the sea, but the resort’s biologist tries to allow the baby a time to recover for a brief period before placing them back on the sand and allowing them to imprint their birth place before they make a dash for the ocean.
